Photo Journalism Class: Week 1
The Cambridge Center of Adult Education has some photography classes. One of which is a photo journalism class for which i signed up a little while ago. Today was the first day of class.
The students arrived one by one and we were welcomed by our teacher Skip Schiel. The first class was spent with introducing ourselves, discussing what can be understood by ‘photo journalism’ (a - series of - photos that tell a story, that tell the photographer’s perspective of a situation that may be of importance to a wider public), discussing some general photography issues and looking at some examples of photo journalism.
During the course, the students are required to do some work for this class. This work is 4-fold:
- A weekly: An assignment do be done and completed for each week.
- A report: A one time short text or talk on a subject that may be of importance to the other students.
- A project: One project to be done over the duration of the entire 8-week course.
- 2 field-trips: All of us will take 2 photo journalistic field-trips together to learn from the teacher and from each other.
Next week’s weekly is to shoot about one’s home. It must be about your home, where you live, where you feel at home, what you do there, etc. It should consist of about 10 pictures.
So, as you can see, i have a lot to think about
What pics will i take for my weekly?
What will my project-subject be…? I still need to think hard about this.
Until next post; week 2.

Interesting project. Don’t forget the close-ups. They’ll give you details you may have otherwise missed.
