D200 in repair for banding issue (4).

This is a continuation of the banding posts of my D200.

Good news from my dealer, BromField Cameras. They called me this morning and they will replace my old D200 with a new one!

Yesterday a Nikon rep was visiting BromField and the dealer told me that this was a good time to bring the camera in to see if it could be replaced. Since the camera was already repaired, there could be an issue with replacing it with a new body, but with the rep present they might be able to get it replaced anyway.

I went in yesterday with the camera, inside the original box, with all the papers and accessories that come with it, and a CF card with some shots that showed the banding/striping problem. The dealer told me this morning that the rep officially denied that the D200 has banding problems but that they will replace it anyway. So, the rep did not even look at the pics. Of course, only a small percentage of the D200 has these issues. Therefore it is not a ‘general’ issue with the D200. But still…

A guy drives his old Rolls Royce and his car breaks down. After a month, after his car has been repaired, he calls Rolls Royce and asks how much the repairs would cost him. "Where is the bill for my car’s repairs?" The representative on the other side of the line says: "What repairs, sir? We don’t have any record of a Rolls breaking down".

I hope that this new one does not exhibit the issues i had with my current D200. I don’t expect the short-type  banding to be entirely gone, but it should be (much) less and the striping in the noise should be gone all together.

To be continued…
