Photosynth

Photosynth is a system that can analyze large collections of digital pictures of objects and places, analyze them for similarities and display them in a re-constructed three dimensional virtual space.

Navigation through this space takes place by zooming in or out, going into more detail or less detail and by moving through the 3D space itself. Pictures themselves can be linked and these links can be used for navigation as well.

I tried out the application for a little while. I got lost in the navigation sometimes and I needed to zoom-out or go back ‘Home’ to get my bearings.

I wonder what impact this application can have, especially if it comes online for everyone to access. Google’s Street View comes to mind. It will be very interesting to follow…
